With BCM, I would know within moments if just a few servers ramped up CPU power - this usually happens with requests and processors then generate more heat, which increases fan speeds and makes them loud. Usually the request is completed and the processors slow down, but not with mining - all processors go full bore 100%, and please, for god sakes, please don't tell me how it works - I mined quite heavily back in the day. So on top of all that, the CRAC units will kick up to keep the temperature within the setpoint parameters, so that means additional compressors come on and for a 10 ton CRAC or whatever size you have in that server farm, that adds up fast. With BCM, I can tell what row and rack(s) are drawing serious power so now I am on the phone with the network group and if you say your father is a wiz bang at hiding that mining process, he is in for a surprise.
If it's his own company - well good luck. However, he should use the calculators to see the dismal ROI.
